SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION WITH CHINA

Deputy Director General of the Institute of Economics under the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Z.K. Chulanova, visited universities and research institutions in China during a working trip to Shanghai at their invitation, where she participated in professional exchanges with university professors and their research divisions.

During a visit to the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a meeting was held with Executive Dean Professor Shijun Cheng, Associate Dean and Professor of Finance Hong Yan, and Assistant Director for International Affairs Xiaoin Zhao. The discussion covered joint research initiatives, identified topics for potential scientific projects and their implementation programs. Additionally, professors from China were invited to serve as international consultants for PhD candidates at the Institute of Economics.

During a meeting with Research Department Head Pai Xinzhu, participants became acquainted with SAIF’s research practices and academic culture, and outlined prospects and directions for collaborative research.

Z.K. Chulanova also participated in a scientific seminar titled “Turning the World Upside Down: Option Pricing When Interest Rates Can Be Negative”, conducted at SAIF by Philip H. Dybvig, Professor at Washington University and 2022 Nobel Laureate in Economics.

During a meeting at the School of Economics at Fudan University, discussions were held with Director of the Institute of World Economy Changyuan Luo, Director of the Center for European Studies Chun Ding, and Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economy Guobing Shen. The parties identified opportunities and directions for joint research, addressed matters of faculty and research exchanges, publication activity, and discussed developments in the global economy and the economies of Kazakhstan and China.

Memoranda of cooperation were prepared during the meetings.
