The scientific journal “Economy: Strategy and Practice,” published by the Institute of Economics under the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (SC MSHE RK), has achieved a significant milestone: in October 2025, the publication was formally accepted into the international bibliographic database, Scopus.

This achievement marks a pivotal moment for the advancement and international recognition of Kazakhstan’s economic science.

The decision by Scopus regarding retrospective indexation is particularly noteworthy: the database will include all articles published in the journal starting from 2021. This not only validates the consistently high quality of the journal’s scientific content over recent years but also grants immediate international recognition to the works of both Kazakhstani and international authors.

Registered in 2006, the journal has undergone a process of sustained development. In 2012, it was included in the national list of publications recommended for reporting key findings in economic sciences.

A crucial phase of modernization occurred during the 2018-2021 period, involving comprehensive efforts to align the publication with global standards: The editorial policy was fully updated. A professional reviewer base was established. Requirements for article formatting and content were standardized according to international norms. A transition to the Elpub automated platform was implemented to optimize workflow with authors and reviewers.

Prior to Scopus, the journal had already been indexed in 7 authoritative international databases, including RINZ, DOAJ, ECONBIZ, Mendeley, Lens, and BASE.

In 2021, after successfully passing verification based on new, stricter criteria, the journal was re-included in the list of recommended publications in Kazakhstan. The intensive and targeted work carried out from 2021 to 2025 logically culminated in the achievement of the strategic goal: integration into Scopus.

The inclusion of “Economy: Strategy and Practice” in one of the world’s largest scientific databases represents a significant step for the entire academic sector of Kazakhstan. This achievement will not only boost the citation rate of domestic research but also unlock new opportunities for the deeper integration of Kazakhstani economic science into the global scientific community.

The priority moving forward is not merely maintaining its Scopus listing, but actively improving its rankingwithin the economic field, and expanding the journal’s visibility through inclusion in other prestigious international databases, notably Web of Science.
